Funeral services for Weldon Earnest "Doc" Colston, 87, of Cornelia, were held Sunday, Sept. 8, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Nix and the Rev. Chris York officiating. Interment followed in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Anthony Shore officiating and military honors provided by Habersham County American Legion Post No. 84, Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720, and Rabun County DAV Chapter No. 15.

Mr. Colston passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019.

Born April 8, 1932, in Cornelia, he was a son of the late Charlie Roy and Zelma Brewer Colston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl Colston, Vernon and Lucille Colston, Russell Colston, and Harold and Joyce Colston; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Leo Forrester, and Ruby and Claude Batson.

Mr. Colston served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War Era and was a supervisor for 33 years at Clarkesville Mill. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 46 years. Mr. Colston enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, growing watermelons to give to his church family, and gospel and bluegrass music. He especially loved rabbit hunting with his beagles and killed the first deer on the Lake Russell Refuge. Mr. Colston enjoyed his family above all and was a kind and gentle husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Joyce Virginia Autry Colston of Cornelia; sons and daughter-in-law, Randy Weldon Colston, and David Mark and Sandy Colston, all of Cornelia; daughters, Joye Colston Dodd and former son-in-law, Ricky Dodd, and Dianne Colston Shaw, all of Cornelia; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Kenneth Alexander of Cornelia; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Colston of Mt. Airy, and Frances Colston of Cornelia; grandchildren, Matthew Scroggs, Ashley Freeman, and Brooke Stanley; and great-grandchildren, Cara, Mya, T.J., and Ada.
