Francine ‘Fran’ and Hugh Garrison

A joint celebration of life service for Francine “Fran” Allen Garrison, 70, and her husband, Hugh Garrison, 69, both of Cornelia, was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Jody Garrison and the Rev. Mark Garrison officiating. Burial followed in the Garrison family section of the Old Mud Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Ray Turpin officiating at the graveside.

Mrs. Garrison died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Habersham Medical Center.

Mrs. Garrison was born Aug. 16, 1943, in Sautee. She was a daughter of the late William Alonzo and Addie Simmons Allen.

Mrs. Garrison was a very devoted wife, homemaker and was a member of Fellowship Church in Baldwin. She especially loved spending time with all of her family including nieces, nephews and friends. Mrs. Garrison also enjoyed traveling.

Mr. Garrison was born Oct. 2, 1944, in Habersham County. He was a son of the late Rev. Clyde Garrison and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Rebecca Poole Garrison.

Mr. Garrison was retired from Georgia Natural Gas and Elan Pharmaceutical and was a member of Fellowship Church in Baldwin. He enjoyed traveling, working and spending time with his beloved Shih Tzu Hugh “Henry.”

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Garrison was also preceded in death by her brothers, William Paul Allen, Sherman Allen and John Ed Allen; and sister, Irene Lovell.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Garrison was also preceded in death by his brothers, the Rev. Garry Garrison, James Aden Garrison and Farry Dwight Garrison.

Mrs. Garrison’s survivors include her sisters and brothers-in-law, Minnie Lou and George Sexton of Marietta, Susie and Clarence Hollman of Gainesville; sister, Jenny Allen Merritt of Sautee; brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Clifford and Martha Allen of Gainesville; brother-in-law, W.L. Lovell Sr.; and sisters-in-law, Martha Ann Allen and Laverne Allen.

Mr. Garrison’s survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law, Phil and Linda Garrison of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., John and Brenda Garrison of Gainesville; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Ron Ellington of Cornelia; and sisters-in-law, Gail Garrison, Diane Garrison and Wanda Garrison.

Both are survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family requests all donations be made in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Garrison to the American Cancer Society, 2565 Thompson Bridge Road, Suite 114, Gainesville, GA 30501; or to Gideon’s International, Habersham South Camp, P.O. Box 195, Baldwin, GA 30511.
