Funeral services for Andrew J. Boatwright, 87, of Cornelia, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Donald Grizzle and the Rev. Shannon Irvin officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Georgia National Guard.

Mr. Boatwright died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born Jan. 23, 1924, in Schuyler, Va., he was a son of the late Samuel and Dorothy Allen Boatwright. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Norma Jean Boatwright and Vera Boatwright; daughter, Linda Jean Christian; and sister, Frances Bockis.

Mr. Boatwright was a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country for 30 years and 7 months during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. Mr. Boatwright was a charter member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Morris Harrison Boatwright of the home; sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Fred Beauchamp of Palmyra, Va., and Sonona and Doug Fairfax of San Diego, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law, Samuel J. and Peggy Boatwright of Keene, Va.; three grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today, Oct. 7, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel.
