Mrs. Rider died peacefully Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, surrounded by family and friends after courageously battling cancer.
She was born in Dahlonega and spent her young life singing and playing the piano at Mill Creek Baptist Church. Barbara walked with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Saviour, all the days of her life and taught those around her the meaning of faith, humility and love. As a mortgage loan officer, Barbara was known as the customer service queen for helping people have a place to call home. Barbara loved her career and spent most of her time with her daughter and grandchildren. She is known to most as “Granny B” or as “friend.”
She was the daughter of the late Pauline and Reuben Grant and was also preceded in death by brothers, Billy, Jimmy, Jerry, Cecil and Charlie Grant.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Jerry Rider of Murrayville; daughter, Donna Seabolt Roberts and her husband Jonathan of Demorest; stepson, Eddie Rider and his wife Jana of Atlanta; stepdaughters, Vanessa Dunagan and her husband Randy of Cleveland, Wanda Woodall and her husband Jeff of Dahlonega; brother and sister-in-law, Clayton and Patsy Grant of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Brittany Roberts, Karrie Roberts, Ahmia Roberts, Ryan Woodall, Cody Woodall, Ethan Woodall, Ray Dunagan, Thomas Dunagan, Beth-Anne Dunagan, Hayden Rider, Heidi Rider and Halli Rider; great-grandchildren, Kira Borton, Tydus Dunagan, Sophia Dunagan and Jessica Manning. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.
To celebrate the life of Barbara, the family is asking for random acts of kindness – donate blood, volunteer, spend time with a friend.
Banister Funeral Home of Dahlonega is in charge of the arrangements.
