Funeral services for Billy Poole, 69, of Homer, are scheduled for 11 a.m. today, June 29, at Charity Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Smith and the Rev. Billy Burrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Poole will lie in state at the church prior to the service from 10:30 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Mr. Poole died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, following a sudden illness.

Born March 25, 1943, in Banks County, he was a son of the late Jewell and Janie Parson Poole.

He was a charter member of Charity Baptist Church, currently serving as chairman of the deacons, and was a Sunday school teacher for most of his adult life. He retired from Habersham Metal as a production engineer with 39 years of loyal and dedicated service. Also, he was still very active on his farm.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Whitfield Poole of Homer; daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy and Brant Langston of Homer, and Rhonda and Jeff Gowder of Westminster, S.C.; sisters, Annette Cape and Charlotte Parks, both of Gillsville; brothers, Ralph Poole of Gillsville, and Leroy Poole of Mt. Airy; four grandchildren, Shannon Gowder, Misty Gowder, Drew and his wife Christen Gowder, and Alexis Langston; and one great-grandchild, Peyton Gowder.
