Brent Carleton Lacy began his next journey on Dec. 21, 2012, after a long dance with cancer. He was 59.

Growing up in a multi-generational missionary family, Mr. Lacy had circled the world twice and traveled from California to Prince Edward Island, Canada, and back in a 1958 Ford Edsel station wagon by the time he was 8. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a 1979 graduate of the University of Connecticut.

Mr. Lacy spent 21 years in the poultry industry with a prominent primary breeding company, serving in several operational and administrative positions, including three years in Thailand working technical service and sales. He also spent six years as a practice manager for a private medical practice and five years as executive director for Habitat for Humanity of Northeast Georgia and the first executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Volusia in Orange City, Fla.

Surviving family members include his wife, Mary Witt Lacy of DeLand, Fla.; son, Ben Lacy and his wife Olivia and their two sons, Cash and Roy of Storrs, Conn.; daughter, Alissa Lacy of Boston, Mass.; stepdaughter, Frances and her husband Paul Silva, and their two daughters, Hailey and Helen of DeLand, Fla.; siblings, Ruth [Lacy] and Arny Long of Great Falls, Va., Hank Lacy of Hollywood, Md., Jessie Lacy of Reston, Va., and Doug and Jane Lacy of Parker, Colo.; sister-in-law, Ella and her husband Wayne Whitfield of Cleveland; sister-in-law, Ruth Witt and her partner William Skipworth of Savannah; sister-in-law, Rachel and her husband Rob Lawrence of Gainesville, Fla.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Pearl Witt of Gainesville, Fla.
