Funeral services for Brian Keith Chalmers, 45, of Lula, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Chaplin Keith Ferguson and the Rev. James Duncan officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps, Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720, Habersham County American Legion Post No. 84 and the Rabun County DAV Chapter No. 15.

Mr. Chalmers died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at his residence.

Born March 23, 1967, in Monroe County, Mich., he was son of Christopher and Kathleen Chalmers of Brownstown, Mich.

Mr. Chalmers served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps for more than seven years. He was decorated, having received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Meritorious Mast, Letter of Appreciation and an Expert Rifle Badge.

Survivors include his loving wife, Porsha Ann Chalmers of Lula; son, Matthew Keith Chalmers of Lincoln Park, Mich.; sister, Christine Burget (Calvin) of Pinellas Park, Fla.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Earl Sr. and Louise Nix of Gillsville; sisters-in-law, Jane Smith (Mike) of Alto and Elaine Williams (Jeff) of Cornelia; brother-in-law, Earl Jr. and Lisa Nix of Gillsville; 13 nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today, Dec. 28.
