Funeral services for Burch Simmons, 87, of Cornelia, are scheduled for 11 a.m. today, Dec. 28, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Verner London and the Rev. W.A. Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Simmons died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at his residence.

Born April 25, 1925, in Banks County, he was the son of the late Johnny and Dosha Broome Simmons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lovenie Erwin Simmons, six brothers and five sisters.

He was a saw miller for a number of years and was a well-known produce farmer in this area.

Survivors include his daughter, Brenda Dean of Cornelia; sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Bernice Simmons of Cornelia, Wayne and Grace Simmons, and Glenn and Brenda Simmons, all of Cleveland; four sisters, Geraldine Marcus of Demorest, Betty Harvo of Demorest, Ruth Caufman of Stockbridge and Pat York of Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
