A memorial service for C. William (Bill) Hemmer Jr., 83, will take place Feb. 2 in the sanctuary of Moorings Presbyterian Church in Naples, Fla.

Mr. Hemmer completed his earthly journey the evening of Jan. 10, 2013, following several years of debilitating health conditions. His transition from this life to the next was made in quiet peace after being surrounded by loving family, pastors and close friends.

Bill lived many of his years in Richmond, where he was well known for his singing voice and winning personality. A graduate of George Williams College, Chicago, Ill., he was a professional YMCA secretary for several years and then director of Volunteer Services at Richmond State Hospital before relocating to Naples, Fla.

Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie (Long), and their cherished family: beloved son, William Glenn, daughter-in-law Bo (Orr), of Demorest, and four golden grandchildren, Jason Kyle, Tara Leigh, Nolan Ashley and Sawyer Foster Hemmer, all of whom will miss him greatly but will never forget him. Other survivors are members of Marjorie’s family, Roland and Eileen (Long) Buckley of Richmond, Edward and Sandra (Jordan) Long of Wilkinson, Ind., nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence W. and Thelma Hemmer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s name to Moorings Presbyterian Church, 791 Harbour Drive, Naples, FL 34103; or the charity of your choice.
