Memorial services for Charlie Mae Mattox Banks, 72, of Cornelia, are scheduled for 11 a.m. today, Oct. 24, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Tracy Curry officiating.

On Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at Peachtree Christian Hospice, she was called home to glory. She was a good soldier and answered the call.

Born March 17, 1940, she was the daughter of the late James Pope and Gertrude Mattox. She was the third eldest of six children. Two siblings preceded her in death, George W. Mattox and Lattrella Mattox Scott.

She was united in marriage to the late Nathaniel Banks and continued to reside in Cornelia.

Mrs. Banks attended Cornelia Regional High School and devoted her time being a loving wife and mother to three sons. At an early age, she joined and attended Israel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Cornelia. She was an inspirational force in the community, even during the time of her illness. She always cared about others and had a sweet spirit about her. She believed in God and never let go of her faith.

Mrs. Banks leaves behind to mourn her three children, James Frederick Mattox, Melvin William Banks and Timothy Sebastian Banks (Michelle); three sisters, Jean Gloria Gober (LaFayette), Sally Mae Brown (Tim) and Peggy Burgess; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

An online guest register is available and may be viewed at
