Funeral services for Edwin Boyd Sims, 85, of Turnerville were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at Hillside Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John Reeser officiating. Military honors were provided by the Georgia Military Honors Funeral Team of Ft. Gillem. Burial followed the service in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Sims died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at his residence.

Born June 30, 1926, in Hiawassee, he was the son of the late Hamp and Lucy Burrell Sims. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bronez Sims; son, Jeffrey Sims; and sisters, Elwanda Bagley and Evelyn Strand.

Mr. Sims was a United States Army veteran. He retired as a maintenance supervisor from Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute and was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife/partner, Dottiee McCollum of Turnerville; daughters, Debi Sims Harris, Kay Sims Norton; brother, Burrell Sims of Tyrone; sister, Phenie Ash of Clarkesville; stepdaughters, Nancy Higginbotham and Angela MacMillan, both of Turnerville; and stepsons, Sam McCollum of Turnerville, and Andy McCollum of Athens.
