Funeral services for Frances Ellison Burke, 94, of Cornelia, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with Pastor Lisa Graves officiating. Burial followed in Clarkesville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Burke died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at a local care facility.

Born Aug. 1, 1918, in Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late George Matthew and Susie Trotter Ellison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Coleman Burke; sisters, Catherine Logan and Louise Callam; and brother, Rothell Ellison.

Mrs. Burke taught seventh grade in Clarkesville for a number of years and then became a social worker with the Habersham County Department of Family and Children Services. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Clarkesville.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jim Massey of Jasper; sister, Judy Ellison of Clarkesville; brother and sister-in-law, C.J. and Mildred Ellison of Clarkesville; and grandchildren, Josh Massey and Jeremy Massey.
