Mr. Holcomb died Feb. 27, 2013, at a local area hospital following a three-year period of declining health.
Born Jan. 5, 1930, in White County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Hassie Palmer Holcomb. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Vera Freeman Holcomb; brother, Delmar Holcomb; sisters, Hazel Banks and Pat Minish.
Mr. Holcomb was a member of Fairfield Baptist Church. He was a dedicated and loyal employee with Clarkesville Mill, with 50 years of service, until the mill closed.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Henry Loudermilk of Mt. Airy, Judy and Jerry Ivester of Demorest and Annette and Eddie Scott of Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Edna Holcomb of Demorest; sister, Lucille Kinsey of Cleveland; brother, Huel Holcomb of Clermont; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. today, March 1, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest.
