Mr. Tench died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Gateway Health & Rehab in Cleveland following an extended illness.
Born Aug. 16, 1920, in Habersham County, he was a son of the late Jesse D. and Tallulah Eliza Williams Tench. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eunell McDougald Tench; son, Charles Tench; daughter, Betty Sue Rogers; and a granddaughter, Kami Tench Cabe.
Mr. Tench served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II and worked in the textile industry for many years until retirement. He enjoyed playing music with his guitar, fishing, working in flowers with his wife and especially enjoyed family gatherings. Mr. Tench attended New Bridge Baptist Church of Cleveland for more than 35 years. Affectionately known as Grandpa by his family, Herbert was very loved and will be missed by all.
Survivors include his children, Roger and June Tench of Danielsville, Steve McDougald, Stanley and Sheree McDougald, all of Cleveland, Judy McDougald of Cornelia, Rita and Mitchell Cantrell of Sautee; daughter-in-law, Donna Tench of Cornelia; sister-in-law, Eva Alexander of Cleveland; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Garland and Ellen Stephens, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Winnie and William Hembree, all of Cornelia; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
