Funeral services for Herman Logan Dodd, 99, of Toccoa, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Mount Bethel Church of God Cemetery, with the Rev. Scott Dent officiating.

Mr. Dodd died Friday, Oct. 19, 2012, at home with his loving family by his side.

Born March 10, 1913, in Stephens County, he was the son of the late James Earnest and Minnie Loudermilk Dodd. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Selma Belle Todd Dodd; daughter, Gwinnett Dodd Pettyjohn; and second wife, Beulah Todd Dodd.

Herman was an avid cattleman, farmer and orchardist. He was an accomplished mason who worked laying stone on the Chenocetah Tower and nearby parks with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. He built brick furnaces for WABCO of Toccoa, from where he retired after 36 years of service. At the spry age of 80, with the help of grandsons, he completed the stone exterior walls of Mount Bethel Church of God parsonage, where he was a founding member.

He leaves behind a sister, Eula Dodd Kinney; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Charles Witt and Chee Chee and David Chastain; son and daughter-in-law, Roger Dodd and Mildred Shirley Dodd; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. They will sorely miss his wise sense of humor, warm-hearted laughter and vivid tales of a life well lived in a community he called home for almost a century.
