James ‘Jimmy’ E. Cochran

Funeral services for James “Jimmy” E. Cochran, 69, of Cornelia, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Paul Wright and the Rev. Keith Allison officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Cochran died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at home surrounded by family and friends, following an extended illness.

Born Nov. 17, 1943, in Dillsboro, N.C., he was the son of the late Ernest Cochran and Helen Shane Jones Cochran Warren. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Cochran; brother, Larry Cochran; and stepfather, Worth Warren.

Mr. Cochran was the cooler coordinator with Fieldale Corporation for more than 25 years. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog and Atlanta Braves fan. Jimmy loved fishing, and was a longtime community softball coach.

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Grace Simmons Cochran of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Matt Hudlow of Alto; two very loved grandchildren, Maddie and Gabe Hudlow; sister, Mary Funk of Cornelia; brother, Cecil Cochran of Dillsboro, N.C.; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and two best friends, Jimmy Barrett and Jerry Croy, both of Cornelia.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today, Jan. 23, at the funeral home.
