Funeral services for Jonathan Terrell Chastain, 84, of Clarkesville, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 2, at Hillside Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Larry Bryson and the Rev. Steven Gilreath officiating. Burial followed the service in Enotah Cemetery, Hiawassee.

Mr. Chastain died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at Habersham Medical Center.

Born Oct. 13, 1927, in Towns County, he was the son of the late Thomas John and Martha Alice Berry Chastain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Nicholson Chastain; sister, Flo Gribble; and brother, James Chastain.

Mr. Chastain was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hiawassee and he was retired from Scovill Fasteners Inc., where he worked in maintenance.

Survivors include daughters, JoAnn Teal (Donald), Joyce Cross (John), Janice Justus (Richard), Debbie Nix and Sharon Roach, all of Clarkesville; sons, Terry Chastain (Cyndi) of Demorest, Tommy Chastain (Lisa) of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Greg Chastain (Amber) of Mt. Airy; brothers, Henry Chastain and Joe Chastain, both of Hiawassee; sisters, Ada Bryson of Cullowhee, N.C., and Mae Gunter of Andrews, N.C.; as well as 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
