Graveside services for Joseph “Joe” William Lipsitz, 93, husband of Lucille Bass Lipsitz, of Beaufort, S.C., will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, in Beth Israel Cemetery with Masonic rites.

Mr. Lipsitz died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, in Veterans Victory House Nursing Home in Walterboro, S.C.

Born May 6, 1920, in Beaufort, S.C., he was the son of the late Max Saul Lipsitz and Bertha Rubin Lipsitz.

He was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue, a member of Beaufort Harmony Lodge No. 22 for more than 60 years and a past member of the Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club.

He and his wife, Lucille, were owners and operators of Lipsitz’s Department Store for many years.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, of Beaufort, S.C., are two sons, Barry M. Lipsitz (Lucia) of Cornelia, and Neil B. Lipsitz (Michele) of Beaufort, S.C.; two daughters, Sandra Mendel (Rick) of Columbia, S.C., and Judy Thornberry (David) of Palm Bay, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to the Veterans Victory House for the wonderful care of Joe.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Beth Israel Synagogue, P.O. Box 328, Beaufort, SC 29901; Alzheimer’s Family Services of Greater Beaufort, P.O. Box 1514, Beaufort, SC 29901; or Veterans Victory House Nursing Home, 2461 Sidneys Road, Walterboro, SC 29488.
