Michael S. ‘Rodeo’ Canup

Memorial services for Michael S. “Rodeo” Canup, 59, of Lula, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Hillside Memorial Chapel with full firefighter honors. Jerry Palmer and Billy Joe Jenkins officiated.

Mr. Canup died Feb. 7, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born Sept. 29, 1952, in Clarkesville, he was the son of the late Oscar and Ruby Seay Canup.

Mr. Canup was retired from a career of service in public safety, having worked at Cornelia Fire Department and Baldwin Fire Department. He also spent more than 10 years in the ring wrestling at the professional level. Mr. Canup was a loving husband and father, grandfather and friend.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Harrison Canup of Lula; sons, Chris Canup and wife Ana of Hobe Sound, Fla., Bobbie Canup and Benji Canup of Commerce; stepson, Kenneth Rogers of Commerce; stepdaughter, Heather Rogers of Lula; sister, Helen Canup of Lula; as well as seven grandchildren.
