Mrs. Nix died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Habersham Home East.
Born Aug. 5, 1923, in the Macedonia Community of Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late George Kytle and Wilda McClellan Fry.
Mrs. Nix worked for many years with Scovill Manufacturing, retired from Clarkesville Mill, and was a former manager of the Demorest Coin Laundry. Affectionately known as “Meme” to her grandchildren and friends, Mrs. Thelma was a strong Christian woman who was always willing to help others who were in need. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and, most of all, spending precious time with her family. Mrs. Nix was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Clarkesville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Nix; son, Kenneth Nix; daughters-in-law, Barbara Nix, Bonnie Nix; brothers, Dillard, Levo, Alvin, Osco, Calvo and Freeman Fry; sisters, Connice McEntire and Beulah Bannon. Mrs. Nix was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Betty Nix of Clarkesville; sons, Jerry Nix of Alto, Calvin Nix of Clarkesville, Terry Nix of Alto; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today, Feb. 21, at the funeral home.
