Mr. Hallford died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born Oct. 19, 1926, in Habersham County, he was a son of the late James Robert and Myrtle Hightower Hallford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Ferguson Hallford; sister, Wilma Hallford; sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Jake Church;, brothers, Loy Hallford, Hughie Hallford, Clarence “Poon” Hallford, Jimmy Hallford and Jerry Hallford.
He was retired after 20 years of service with the United States Navy and served his country proudly during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hallford was also retired after many years of service as a lieutenant with the Georgia Tech Campus Police. He was also a lifetime member of Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720.
He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Hallford Kangiser of Clarkesville; sons, Robert E. Hallford of Stone Mountain, Mark T. Hallford of Gwinnett County; brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond and Lorraine Hallford, Edward and Mildred Hallford, all of Demorest; sisters-in-law, Ping Hallford of Demorest, Louise Hallford and Majell Hallford, both of Clarkesville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends at the residence (800 Sutton Mill Road, Clarkesville) from 7-9 p.m. today, Oct. 19.
