A memorial service for Virginia Etheridge Wood, 90, of Decatur, will be held in Sautee Nacoochee at a later time.

Mrs. Wood died Nov. 23, 2011.

Born May 28, 1921, in Clayton, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Roy Piece Etheridge and Robbie Williams Etheridge. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Miller Wood Jr., and sister, Marian Etheridge Blackwell.

An honor graduate of Andrew and LaGrange colleges, Virginia worked for the Georgia Department of Public Health in Atlanta until her marriage in 1945 to Thomas Miller Wood Jr. of Macon. A long-time Decatur resident, she was an active member of Decatur First United Methodist Church. She was a talented artist, gardener and pianist.

Survivors include her sister, Dr. Elizabeth Etheridge of Farmville, Va., and Sautee Nacoochee; her three children, Dr. Elaine Wood of Cleveland, Nancy Wood of Boulder, Colo., and Tim Wood of Decatur; one grandchild, Sara Wood of Atlanta; one great-grandchild, Dylan Cameron Miller Weathington of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Children’s Home, 500 S. Columbia Drive, Decatur GA 30030.
