Mrs. Tench died Friday, Nov. 25, 2011.
Born Feb. 21, 1923, in Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late John Candler Erwin and Margie Morris Erwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, J.C. Thompson; and she was the widow of Bryant Tench. She also was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Victor Wiley; sisters, Caroline Watkins, Maybelle Ivie, Fannie Tilson, Pauline Batson and Louvenie Simmons; brothers, Lewis, Coleman, Homer, Ernest and Ray Erwin; and a grandson, Neal Wilbanks.
Mrs. Tench was a long-time member at Mud Creek Baptist Church until she transferred her membership to Northside Baptist Church when, as a widow, she remarried. She lived on a farm where she enjoyed the outdoors and her interests included cooking, gardening, singing, playing the piano and guitar, and spending time raising her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Herman Wiley of Cornelia, Patricia Wiley Bell and James Bell of Cornelia, Elaine and Mike Henry of Cornelia, June and Jimmy Mize of Demorest, Susan and Dennis Ivey of Cleveland, and Jeannie and Clayton Burrell of Cornelia; sister, Ethel Ivester Smith of Cornelia; 16 grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
