Funeral services for Betty Hammond Miller, 84, of Macon and formerly of Cornelia, are scheduled for 11 a.m. today, Jan. 6, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Miller died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012.

Born Dec. 19, 1927, in Trion, she was the daughter of the late John Alexander and Myrtis Hogue Hammond. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Laura Nell Woods, Mable Espy, Frances McLean, Margaret Day, Dorothy Baker and Eloise Vetek; and brothers, James Alexander “Buddy” Hammond and Harold Hammond.

Mrs. Miller was a lifelong resident of Habersham County until May of 2002, when she moved to Macon and became a resident of Carlyle Place. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cornelia and previously was active in the Baptist Women (WMU) and Sunday School Class. She also volunteered at the church library, and was a member of the Three Arts Club and Cornelia Garden Club.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sheryll Melinda Miller and Lynn Hooven of Macon; son, Michael Barr Miller of Fort Bragg, Calif.; grandchildren and spouses, Laura and Marc Waetjen of Wyomissing, Pa., and James and Kristen Hooven of Longmont, Colo.; and great-grandchildren, Carsten and Katrin Waetjen and Hannah and Drake Hooven.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 277 MLK Jr Blvd., Suite 201, Macon, GA 31201; American Cancer Society, c/o Lena McGahee, 170 Thomas St., Apt A, Cornelia, GA 30531; or to First Baptist Church of Cornelia, P.O. Box 96, Cornelia, GA 30531.
