Nephews Michael Sims, Hal Sims, Artie Turner, Steve Turner, Chad Cornell, Bill Cornell, Mark Binsz, Butch Nix, Rick Trivett and Dr. Dan Windham will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Cathey died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Cathey was a native of Robertstown, in White County. She was a member and former choir member of Center Baptist Church. From 1962-69, she was co-owner and operator of The Iceburg, one of Helen’s first restaurants. She was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker, and was well known among friends and family for her cooking and baking. She attended White County Schools and graduated from Nacoochee High School in 1944.
Mrs. Cathey was preceded in death by her parents, William and Martha Allison Cornell; sister, Charlotte Turner; and brother, Larry Cornell.
Survivors include her husband and caregiver of 67 years, Ross Cathey; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard “Skeet” and Beth Cathey of Jefferson, Skip and Judy Cathey of Cleveland, Jeff and Zulene Cathey of Sautee Nacoochee; grandson and wife, Jeremy and Kelly Cathey of Cleveland; two great-grandchildren, Grayson and Paisley Cathey; stepgranddaughter and husband, Libby and Will Tonogan of Sautee Nacoochee; two stepgrandchildren, Dylan and Gracie Tonogan; and a stepgrandson, J.D. Brewington of Tennessee.
She is also survived by sisters and spouses, Florence Sims of Gainesville, Sue Nix of Cleveland, Evelyn and Darald Binsz of Winterville; brothers and spouses, Dan and Sandra Cornell of Hartwell and Glenn and Jena Cornell of Dacula; brother-in-law, Arthur Turner of Dunwoody; sister-in-law, Arlene Cornell of Hagerstown, Md.; special friend, Sandee Pulliam of Helen; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Alexander Funeral Home in Cleveland is in charge of arrangements.
