Funeral services for Dr. V.C. Lovell, DVM, 80, of Gainesville, were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel in Gainesville. Burial followed at Alta Vista Cemetery. The Rev. John Eldridge officiated.

Dr. Lovell died at his residence Thursday, March 22, 2012, following a brief illness.

Born Dec. 9, 1931, in Habersham County, he was a son of the late Virgil L. Sr. and Lillie Kastner Lovell. He also was preceded in death by his son, V.C. Lovell II, and his brothers, Earl Lovell and R.L. Lovell.

Dr. Lovell was a graduate of the University of Georgia and went on to earn a doctorate from the UGA School of Veterinary Medicine. He established veterinary clinics in Hall and White counties and eventually established a successful career in real estate, land development and home construction. He owned and operated Universal Concrete Wall Inc. in Habersham County. He was an avid gardener and was well known for sharing his produce, especially his tomatoes, throughout Gainesville and Hall County. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to all of his family and to the friends who knew him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Jo Ann Lovell of Gainesville; and his children, Charles Lovell (Lynn) of Gainesville, David Lovell (Ruth Ann) of LaFollette, Tenn., Rusty (Jan) Lovell of Gainesville, Michael Lovell of Gainesville, Deborah Lovell Turansky (Todd) of Augusta, John Lovell (Janna) of Gainesville, Deitra Lovell of Gainesville; grandchildren, Michael John Lovell (Amy) of Gainesville, Jason Lovell of Buckhead, Shelly Lovell Pound (Jep) of Marietta, Clayton Lovell of Cumming, Spencer Lovell of Gainesville, Luke Lovell of Gainesville, and Hunter Lovell, also of Gainevsille; sisters, Lillie Marie Barron of Habersham County, Irene Blalock of Tiger, and Judy Rea of Clarkesville; brothers, V.L. Lovell (Blondine); W.L. “Dub” Lovell, Carlos Lovell and Fred Lovell (Yvonne), all of Clarkesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
