Funeral services for Gordon Adams, 76, of Clarkesville, will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 13, at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth McEntire and the Rev. Tommy Stowe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Adams died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, following an extended illness.

Born Jan. 28, 1936, in Habersham County, he was the son of the late Luther G. and Lassie Welborn Adams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ruby Adams and Ruth Cabe, and a brother, Lamar Adams.

Mr. Adams was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he and his wife, Martha, enjoyed teaching the Toddlers Sunday School Class for 25 years. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army, and was stationed in Germany. Mr. Adams served on the Habersham Electric Membership Corporation Board of Directors for 27 years. He was a retired rural mail carrier with 25 years of service. Mr. Adams was formerly employed with Clarkesville Mill for more than 20 years and was a beef and poultry farmer for more than 40 years. He was a Mason and a member of Clarkesville Lodge No. 325 F&AM and was a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Waters Adams, of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Ray Morrison of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Donna Adams of Clarkesville; sister and brother-in-law, Reba and Jimmy Childers of Loganville; sister-in-law, LaMerle Edwards of Cleveland; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Inez Adams of Clarkesville, John and Estelle Adams of Clarkesville, and Branson and Lynn Adams of Cornelia; brother-in-law, Nelson Cabe of Otto, N.C.; four grandchildren, Blake Adams, Emily Adams, Will Morrison and Katie Morrison; a number of nieces and nephews; and caregivers, Joy Baker and Pam Lovell.
