Funeral services for Brenda Gail Hamilton Porterfield, 64, of Clarkesville, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Amy’s Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Trotter, the Rev. Anthony Shore and the Rev. Alvin Burns officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Ms. Porterfield died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at her residence following an extended illness.

Born May 26, 1947, in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late Bud and Vera Mae York Hamilton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Linda Mae Hamilton Mulchi and Patsy Jean Hamilton.

Ms. Porterfield was a homemaker and also worked for many years with Fieldale Farms. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she adored. Ms. Porterfield attended Amy’s Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Marindy Garrett and Chris Ferguson of Demorest; daughter, Vera Larue Bugulrow of Toccoa; brothers, Leroy Hamilton of Mt. Airy, Larry William “Sonny” Hamilton, Ronald Alexander “Runt” Hamilton, both of Demorest, Clyde Hamilton, Jerry Lee Hamilton and James Hamilton, all of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Denise Wade, Dustin Garrett, Logan Ferguson, Mae Porterfield, Cheyanna Ferguson; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
