Funeral services for Helen D. Allen, 90, of Demorest, are scheduled for 11 a.m. today, May 25, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia. Burial will follow in Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Allen died Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at a local nursing facility.

Mrs. Allen lived a life well spent and has been received in Heaven with the welcome plaudit, “Well done my good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of the Lord.”

Born July 3, 1921, in Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Sallie Erwin Dixon.

On June 30, 1945, she married Arvel “Bud” Allen and they lived happily together for 57 years. There were two children born to them, Joan Allen Curtis (Ken) of Demorest and Coleman Allen of Clarkesville. One of their greatest joys was the birth of their grandson, Drew Allen of Charleston, S.C. Their first great-grandchild, Penelope Jane, was born to Drew and Amber Allen on May 24, 2011.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Ruth Banks, 633 Fairview School Road, Demorest, GA 30535; or to White County Special Olympics, P.O. Box 2194, Cleveland, GA 30535.
