Funeral services for Arvil West Irvin, 87, of Demorest, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Pastor Anthony Shore officiating.

Burial will follow in Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Habersham County American Legion Post No. 84, Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720 and the Rabun County DAV Chapter No. 15.

Mr. Irvin died Sunday, June 3, 2012 at his residence.

Born in Habersham County on Nov. 2, 1924, he was a son of the late Samuel P. and Minnie McAllister Irvin. Mr. Irvin was a member of Habersham Baptist Church and was a self-employed poultry farmer. Mr. Irvin proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII having been a recipient of the Purple Heart and various other medals. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Irvin was also preceded in death by a son, Arvil Douglas Irvin; daughter-in-law, Glenda Irvin; sister, Gennie Humphries.

Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Bonnie McNabb Irvin of Demorest; son, Kenneth Irvin of Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Cathy Irvin of Demorest; brother, Odell Irvin of Demorest; sister, Elizabeth Nicholson of Clarkesville; grandchildren, Delaine and Marty Blazek, Lori Irvin, Todd and Ashley Irvin, Wesley and Michelle Irvin; great grandchildren, Woods Irvin, Jonah, Micah and Noah Blazek.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 7.
