Philip Anthony ‘Tony’ Hamilton

Memorial services for Philip Anthony “Tony” Hamilton, 83, of Clarkesville, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, a Hillside Memorial Chapel.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Hamilton died Sept. 6, 2012, at Stephens County Medical Center.

Born April 12, 1929, Mr. Hamilton was the son of the late Fred B. and Jane Stough Hamilton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by first wife, Ann Kollock Hamilton, and daughter, Diana Lynn Davis.

He was a United States Navy veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hamilton attended Emory University in Atlanta and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He started out as a salesman/manager in commercial construction material for the Pittsburgh-based company H.H. Robertson. Later, Mr. Hamilton was self employed in the sales and consulting fields. He helped to form and was active in the Soque River Watershed Association and instrumental in initiating recycling in Habersham County. Mr. Hamilton was president for the local AARP chapter and the Northeast Georgia Arts Council. He was a talented wood carver and participated in many art shows, and promoted three art shows in Cornelia.

Survivors include his wife, Berma Jarrard Hamilton; three children, 18 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
