Memorial services for Robert Alvin Owen, 99, of Mt. Airy, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at Clarkesville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jan Devereaux, Rev. Brian Butler and Dr. Tom Hodges officiating. Interment will follow the service in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Owen died at his residence Sept. 16, 2012.

Born in Spartanburg, S.C. on Oct. 11, 1912, he was the son of the late James M. and Lillian Lancaster Owen. In addition to his parents, Mr. Owen's beloved wife Lily Norris Owen and brother Macdonald Owen predeceased him.

Mr. Owen was a member of Clarkesville United Methodist Church and he was a local troop leader with the Boy Scouts of American from the 1940s until the 1960s. Mr. Owen retired from Habersham County as a soil conservationist with 34 years of dedicated service. He was also a cattle farmer.

Mr. Owen is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Carolyn Owen of Athens and brother Bernard Owen of Augusta.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m., today, Wednesday, Sept. 19.
