Funeral services for Luna Ivie Long, 88, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Peachtree Presbyterian Church with Steve Huntley officiating. There will be a small reception following the service in the Williams Center.

Mrs. Long died Sept. 22, 2012, after a brief illness.

Born April 2, 1924, in Cornelia, she was the daughter of the late Dora Warwick and William Dallas Ivie. She also was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, who died last September.

She moved to Atlanta in 1942 to attend Drawns Business College. During the war, Luna met the love of her life at a YMCA dance. Luna and Bill were married for 63 years, residing in Sandy Springs. They were long-time members of Peachtree Presbyterian Church, where Luna was active in the Women’s Circle Actives and the Gene Wilson class.

Luna grew up in Cornelia, and graduated from Cornelia High School.

Adored by her husband and so beloved by her three daughters, Luna’s greatest job came in her role as a wife and a mother. She always encouraged and affirmed her children and grandchildren in all that they undertook. She had a kind and loving disposition which led her to always put her family first in all her endeavors.

Survivors include her sister, Minnie Looney Burton; sister-in-law, Francis Ivie Blackburn; daughter, Patrise Long Chambless and son-in-law, Gene Chambless; daughter, Bonnie Sellers Jones; daughter, Peggy Long Goad and son-in-law, Daniel Goad; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Road, Atlanta, GA 30305.
