Funeral services for Edith Marie Sellers Welch, 89, of Alto, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Glenn Parrish officiating. Burial followed in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Welch died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born May 1, 1923, in Franklin, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Samuel Oscar and Gladys Marie Waldroop Sellers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Odell Welch; son, James Michael Welch; brother, Joseph Reid Sellers; and grandmother, Sally Althea Waldroop.

She was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Franklin, N.C. Mrs. Welch was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker.

Survivors include her daughter, Sharon Gail Drake of Alto; sons, Ed Fitzgerald of Charlotte, N.C. and Glenn Fitzgerald of Covington; sister, Katherine Elizabeth Curtis of Valdosta; brother, Samuel Vance “Bill” Sellers of Franklin, N.C.; grandchildren, Kevin Chambers, Missie Winter, Chad Fitzgerald, Shawna Fitzgerald Cope, Daniel Stewart-Fitzgerald and Amanda Stewart-Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren, Caroline Winter, Courtney Winter, Evan Fitzgerald, Owen Fitzgerald, Allison Cope and Emily Cope; and numerous nieces and nephews.
