Funeral services for Murrel Harper Southerland, 95, of Clarkesville were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at Hillside Memorial Chapel, Clarkesville. Burial followed the service at Yonah Memorial Gardens, Demorest.

Mrs. Southerland died Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at Habersham Home East.

Born July 12, 1917, in Mt. Airy, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Myrtle Harrison Clark and she was raised in the home of Alma Allen Harper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie G. Southerland, and sisters, Nelle Arrendale and Ethel Hunt.

Mrs. Southerland was retired from Clarkesville Mill and she was a beautician and a homemaker. She was a member of Clarkesville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Chaplain Bron Forrester of Virginia Beach, Va., and Martha and Morris Byers of Laurenburg, N.C.; son, Donald Southerland of Atlanta; sister, Katherine Mosely of Nashville, Tenn.; special friend, Thelma Elrod of Demorest; grandchildren, Steve Forrester (Tammy), Karen Forrester, Lisa Coleman (Scott), Donna Adams, Michael Byers (Heather), and Matthew Byers (Jennifer); and 12 great-grandchildren.
