A Celebrate Me Home service for the Rev. William “Billy” Henry Harris Jr., 65, of Cornelia, was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest. Burial was in Yonah Memorial Gardens.

The Rev. Harris went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 15, 2012, after an extended illness.

In June of 1967, Billy met the most beautiful girl, Susan, who he married on Dec. 17, 1967. And so began a lifetime full of adventure, joy, love and team work in the ministry, as well as working together to touch lives. He was a good, unfailing likeable man. Billy was a follower of Christ, with a strong faith, an affectionate and devoted husband, and a loving and supportive father and grandfather. Billy pastored Macedonia Baptist Church, Hillside Baptist Church, and was interim at B.C. Grant Baptist Church. He was very active in the Habersham Baptist Ministerial Association, Words to Live By, and worked with the Habersham Baptist Association with the Georgia Baptist Mobile Dental Ministry. Billy retired in 1995 after 30 years of service with the Georgia DOT and in 2003 from the pulpit. Though his loss is devastating to those of us who held him so close and so dear, we will always be inspired by his enduring contributions to our world.

Billy is the son of the late William “Bill” Harris and Lousie “Doodle” Wood Harris.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Susan Wright Harris; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Scott Thomas of Mt. Airy; daughter, Dari Harris Oxner of Cornelia; three grandchildren, Alexis Oxner, Faith Oxner and Nicolas Thomas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alex and Tammy Harris of Clarkesville, and Tony and Carmen Harris of Cornelia; sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Avery Nix of Clarkesville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved cousins from all over the world.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Georgia Baptist Mobile Dental Clinic, in care of Tim E. McClure, Northeast Georgia Area Missionary, 220 Chenocetah Drive, Cornelia, GA 30531.

Arrangements were in the care of Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest.
