Funeral services for Charles Winston Hill, 83, of Demorest, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Fenlon and Kenneth Goss officiating. Burial followed in Habersham Cemetery.

Mr. Hill died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013.

Born Aug. 17, 1929, in Habersham County, he was a son of the late Jay Douglas and Bertha Mae Dixon Hill. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by brothers, James Reeves and Edward Hugh “Boots” Hill.

Mr. Hill was retired from Clarkesville Mill and was a member of Habersham Baptist Church. He was a life-long resident of the Habersham Mills area. Mr. Hill was an avid racing fan and enjoyed listening to classic country music as well as meeting with the breakfast club at Country Crossroads Café.

Survivors include his sisters, Doris H. Ledbetter of Dahlonega, Lois H. Walls of Clarkesville, Carolyn Thompson of Clayton, Margaret Batson of Baldwin, Ruth Goss (Danny) of Dahlonega, Peggy Burke (Dan) of Clarkesville and Jan Barnette (John) of Clarkesville; sisters-in-law, Doris Hill of Cornelia and Joyce Hill of Demorest; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
