Private graveside services for Laraine Burke Canup, 82, of Clarkesville, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Hillside Gardens Cemetery with Keith Canup and the Rev. Larry Free officiating. Family and close friends are to attend.

Mrs. Canup died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at her residence following a period of declining health.

Born Feb. 14 1930, in Helen, she was the daughter of the late Linton and Mae Russell Burke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Nora B. Anderson and Mary Lou Westmoreland, and brothers, Wilburn Burke and Douglas Burke.

After graduating from Nacoochee High School, Laraine married F. Lewis Canup on Jan. 2, 1949. She was a homemaker and a member of Helen Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Canup enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, gardening, cooking and traveling.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Lewis Canup of Clarkesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and the Rev. Larry Free of Clarkesville, Katherine “Kathie” and Jerry Ivester of Clarkesville and Tamara and Michael Jamison of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, R. “Keith” and Judy Canup of Toccoa and Timothy “Tim” and Kim Canup of Toccoa; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Trudy Burke of Cleveland, Bill and Mary Burke of Commerce City, Colo., and Gene and Opal Burke of Robertstown; sister, Jennie Brooks of Demorest; special caregivers, granddaughter Kimberli Krippner, Carol Smith, and Pam Lovell; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today, Jan. 30.
