Mrs. Simpson died Feb. 7, 2013, following stroke complications.
Born Oct. 9, 1926, in Bethlehem, she was a native of Barrow County but had lived in Oklahoma since 1981, specifically Tuttle, Okla., for a majority of that time. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Gartrelle and Abie Louise Griffeth Moore, and grandson, Anthony Bennett. Her varied interests were church, reading, music, all things needlework, and any activity involving the grands and great-grands.
She was a former member of The Eastern Star, sang in Sweet Adeline’s, served as Sunday School teacher and was an officer of Women’s Society of Christian Service (UMW). Though she experienced a variety of unique employments, her most loved job was nurturing and being involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: daughter, Delores Simpson of Auburn; daughter, Melanie and Jamie Schneider of Gainesville; daughter, Gay and Loyte Bennett of Dawsonville; son, Durward Simpson of Athens; and daughter, Donna and Larry Windsor of Tuttle, Okla.; nine grandchildren (Stephen, David, Jason, April, Carrie, Katy, James Ross, Jessica and Rachel); 11 great-grandchildren (Payton, Hope, Chase, Taylor, Colton, Mayson, Grady, Clara Jean, Josie Frances, Luke and Kaitlyn); sisters, Dorothy Peppers and Geraldine Doster; Aunt Mary Anthony and Uncle Edd Griffith; brothers/sisters-in-law, Joy and Ben Black, Pat and Bobby Whitmire; and numerous cousins.
