Funeral services for Carl P. Tallent Jr., 84, of Clarkesville, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Hills Crossing Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Singletary officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Tallent died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Born April 7, 1928, he was the son of the late Carl P. Sr. and Betty Smith Tallent. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Loyd Tallent, and sister, Annie Ruth Nicholson.

He was a United States Navy veteran, having served in Japan and Hawaii aboard the USS Princeton during the Korean War. Mr. Tallent was retired from the United States Postal Service and he has served for 24 years on the Habersham Electric Membership Corp. Board of Directors. Mr. Tallent was a member of Hills Crossing Baptist Church and Clarkesville Masonic Lodge No. 325 F&AM.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche Spivey Tallent of Clarkesville; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Tom Harwell of El Paso, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Jeanne Tallent of Blairsville and Sammy and Lynn Tallent of Clarkesville; grandchildren and their spouses, Jamie and Kenitra Tallent, Jana and Danny Hemphill, Mandy and Andy Wheeler, and Kellie and T.J. Wilson; great-grandchildren, Trenli and Tayli Tallent, Kanon and Kaston Hemphill, and McKenzie Wheeler.
