Michael ‘Larry’ Hill

Funeral services for Michael “Larry” Hill, 62, of Cornelia, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Larry Free officiating. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Georgia Army National Guard.

Mr. Hill died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012.

Born Sept. 19, 1949, in Nashville, Ga., he was the son of the late Ralph and Maud Bennett Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Royce Hill.

Mr. Hill was a United States Army veteran, having proudly served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He also served in the Army Reserve and the Army National Guard for a combined total of 20 years. He was employed with Habersham Metal Products for a number of years and also worked with B.J. Supply for several years. Larry was a member of Toccoa VFW Post No. 4346.

Larry was a member of Hillside Baptist Church in Cornelia. The wonderful people of Hillside Baptist Church opened their doors and hearts to Larry. He worked tirelessly, helping at the church in any way he could. He also reached out to people in the community who needed a helping hand. Larry had a big heart and will be missed by his family and good friends, the Rev. Larry Free, Bud and the late Betty Smith, and Arlene Addison.

Survivors include his daughters, Valerie McKeithan of Gainesville, and Tammy Ellis of Cleveland; sisters, Lane Lee of Baldwin, Cleo Hoyle of Jacksonville, Fla., and Barbara Taylor of Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Portia Hill of Clarkesville; brothers, Rodney Peters of Plant City, Fla., Redith Gaines of Nashville; four grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin.
