Graveside services for David Cornthwaite, 91, of St. Simons Island, formerly of Mt. Airy, were held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 7, at Yonah Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James A. Clark officiating.

Mr. Cornthwaite died Tuesday, June 4, 2013.

Born May 30, 1922, in Middlesex, England, he was the son of the late Herbert and Annie Pyles Cornthwaite. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Ellen Jones Cornthwaite; sister, Elsie Cornthwaite; and brother, Peter Cornthwaite.

Mr. Cornthwaite was of the Episcopal Faith. He served in the Royal Air Force of Great Britain during World War II. Mr. Cornthwaite retired from Lockheed Corporation as an aeronautical design engineer.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Anne Hobby and Lawson of St. Simons Island and Jill Collins and James of Ft. Worth, Texas; sister, Ethel Prince of Bushey, England; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
