Funeral services for the Rev. James William Holden, 61, of Cornelia, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, at the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Free and the Rev. Bill Trotter officiating. Burial will follow in the Pickett Cemetery, Clayton.

The Rev. Holden died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at his residence.

Born June 1, 1952, in Rabun County, he was a son of the late Sam L. and Irene Tyler Holden. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Brandy Michele Holden; brother, Carlton Holden; and sisters, Betty Sue Holden and Judy Richards.

The Rev. Holden was a school bus driver with the Habersham County School System and a member of New Birth Baptist Church. He was ordained into the ministry on Jan. 18, 1992. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed deer hunting and camping.

Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Dianne Loggins Holden of Cornelia; son, Bronson of Alto; sisters, Gennell Looney of Toccoa, Patsy (Thurmond) Gibson of Baldwin, Elma Jean (Wayne) Simpson of Cornelia, Reba (Angus) Hunter of Clarkesville, Martha Cook of Toccoa, and Lynn Bloomfield of Mt. Airy, N.C.; brothers, Charles (Vickie) Holden of Demorest, Buster (Pam) Derrick of Springfield, Ill., and Andy (Genda) Derrick of Clarkesville; many nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives.
