Funeral services for Claude Henry Marcus, 80, of Clarkesville, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at Hillside Memorial Chapel, Clarkesville, with the Rev. Raymond Payne and the Rev. Jan Devereaux officiating. Burial followed the service in Hillside Gardens Cemetery. Firefighter honors were provided by Clarkesville Fire Department.

Mr. Marcus died Oct. 4, 2013, following a period of declining health.

Born Feb. 23, 1933, in Habersham County, he was the son of the late George and Drucillar Heaton Marcus. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Junior, Houston, G.W., Charlie, James and Tommy Marcus, and sister, Maebell Marcus.

Chief Marcus was a United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and the Fire Chiefs Association. Chief Marcus was retired from the City of Clarkesville Fire Department. He was the fire chief with 35 years of loyal and dedicated service.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jean Smith Marcus of Clarkesville; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Anthony Lawrence of Clarkesville; son, Ed Marcus and fiancé Vanessa Tribble of Cornelia; brother, J.C. Marcus of Demorest; sister, Mary Alice Ivester of Turnerville; as well as grandchildren Grayson Lawrence, Story Lawrence, Kira Marcus and Journee Marcus.
