The Rev. Whitworth died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at his residence.
Born March 13, 1925, in Habersham County, he was a son of the late Edward Coleman and Mary Elizabeth Eller Whitworth. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Worley Whitworth; sons, Leroy and Kenneth Whitworth; daughter, Bronez Whitworth; brothers, Frank, Houston and Howard Whitworth; sisters, Lula Whitworth, Clarcy Savage, Beulah Biles, Eunice Grimes, Ruth Vinson and Margie Allen; and great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Dayton.
The Rev. Whitworth spent 52 years in the ministry, having pastored churches in North Carolina and Georgia. For the past several years, he was involved in the nursing home ministry in Habersham and Rabun counties and visiting the sick. He was a member of Trinity Full Gospel Church in Cleveland. The Rev. Whitworth was also a carpenter and woodsman who hand-planted numerous trees in the area. In his spare time, he enjoyed Bible studies and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Ann Whitworth of Mt. Airy; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Jerald Palmer of Demorest, Carol Allen of Clarkesville, Molly and Henry Nicholson of Clarkesville, Polly and Charles Wade of Demorest and Nancy and Autry Gosnell of Clarkesville; sister, Grace Gosnell of Clarkesville; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
