Funeral services for Clay Lewallen, 73, of Baldwin, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the Rev. Tim House and the Rev. Terry Rice officiating. Burial followed in Baldwin City Cemetery with the Rev. Roy Rogers officiating.

Mr. Lewallen died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013.

Born July 26, 1940, in Banks County, he was the son of the late Jim and Madge Coffee Lewallen. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette Watkins, and brothers, Owen Lewallen, Nelson Lewallen and Swayne Lewallen.

Mr. Lewallen was a 1958 graduate of South Habersham High School and was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church. He also served on the DFACS Board of Directors for 33 years, and was a former member of the Banks County Lions Club. Mr. Lewallen was a retired manager of Empire Propane Gas Company, and was employed in the propane gas business for 49 years. He was employed with Pritchett Tire Company at the time of death. Mr. Lewallen was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.

Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Peggy Thomas Lewallen of Baldwin; daughter and son-in-law, Christi and Jason Buffington of Baldwin, and Drew Buffington, his much-loved grandson; sister and brother-in-law, Ruzelle and Milton Patterson of Homer; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Glenda Lewallen of Baldwin; sisters-in-law, Lynn Lewallen of Homer, Helen Lewallen of Baldwin, Frances Lewallen of Baldwin; and also a number of nieces and nephews.
