Funeral services for Edward Lee Ivester, 70, of Clarkesville, are scheduled for 2 p.m. today, Dec. 13, at Clarkesville Church of God with the Rev. Tim Tanner, the Rev. Matt Calvert, the Rev. Gerald Lee, the Rev. Austin Ivester, the Rev. Hank Connor and the Rev. David Hastings officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Turnerville.

Mr. Ivester died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at his residence.

Born June 24, 1943, in Habersham County, he was a son of the late Luther and Iolar Maye Densmore Ivester. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Gregory Brandon Ivester Jr.

Mr. Ivester was the retired owner of Ivester Auto Sales and was a member of Clarkesville Church of God. He also was an avid stockcar racer from 1965 until 2001, winning the last race he drove in. Mr. Ivester was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Doris Ann Johnson Ivester of Clarkesville; son, Gregory and Leslie Ivester of Clarkesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Tim Dean of Cornelia and Cheryl and Tony Sumpter of Clarkesville; brother, David Ivester of Clayton; grandchildren, Brandon and Susan Ivester, Jeremy and Clara Dean, Chase Ivester, Sarah and Jesse Burroughs, Jeff and Cassie Dean, Haley and Derick Ledbetter and Bradley Sumpter; and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edward L. Ivester Memorial Fund, c/o McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 725, Cornelia, GA 30531, to help with funeral expenses.
