John Patrick ‘John Boy’ Waters

Funeral services for John Patrick “John Boy” Waters, 60, of Cornelia, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, at Glade Creek Baptist Church, Mt. Airy, with Rick Quarles and the Rev. Mike Hopkins officiating. Burial followed in Glade Creek Baptist Cemetery.

Mr. Waters died Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, following an extended illness.

Born March 8, 1953, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Earl F. Waters and the late Margaret Adkison Waters Wilbanks. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, J. T. Wilbanks, and sister, Mary Waters.

He was a member of Glade Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Waters was retired from Patterson Pump with 37 years of loyal and dedicated service and was employed part time at the Habersham Hills Cinema from 2005-12. He was an avid NASCAR (Ford) fan and motorcycle rider. Mr. Waters enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Fredda Peyton Waters of Cornelia; daughter and fiancé, Allyson Waters and Clayton Franklin of Cornelia; sister, Catherine Boone of Toccoa; brothers, Richard and Norma Waters of Pensacola, Fla., William and Linda Waters of Pensacola, Fla., Earl and Jane Waters of Anderson, S.C.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carla and Joe Pitts of Mt. Airy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randall and Marcia Peyton of Mt. Airy; granddog, Daisy Mae Waters of Cornelia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The following men served as pallbearers: Terry Metcalf, Tony Carter, Kerry Peyton, Kevin, Peyton, Brad York, Garry Greene, Dank Chapman and Terry Sheriff. Friends from Patterson Pump served as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to The Glade Creek Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Fund or Cemetery Fund, Northeast Georgia Medical Center Foundation, or to a charity of one’s choice.
