Funeral services for Horace Gaithern Nunnally, 90, of Mt. Airy, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, with the Rev. Ken Phillips, the Rev. Ray Turpin and Larry Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery with full military honors provided by Habersham County American Legion Post No. 84, Grant Reeves VFW Post No. 7720, Rabun County DAV Chapter No. 15, and the Georgia National Guard.

Mr. Nunnally died Thursday, March 20, 2014.

Born April 1, 1923, in Banks County, he was the son of the late J.B. and Sally Farmer Nunnally. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edna Hayek Nunnally; sister, Lonie Williams; and brother, Taft Nunnally.

He was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, where he also served as deacon. Mr. Nunnally was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was a charter member of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. Mr. Nunnally was retired from Schnadig Corp., with 43 years of service. He loved people. He loved fishing and hunting. Mr. Nunnally enjoyed going to the Cornelia Post Office to pick up mail and to talk with people.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Bolin Sylvester Morris of Mt. Airy; sister, Nay Gragg of Clayton; granddaughter and husband, Lisa and Tommy Thurmond of Nicholson; great-granddaughter, Anna Marissa Thurmond of Nicholson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, March 22.
