Funeral services for Mary Alice Marcus Ivester, 91, of Turnerville, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Hillside Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ted Ansley and the Rev. Wilmer Austin Ivester officiating. Burial followed the service in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Ivester died peacefully at her residence on Saturday, March 29, 2014, following a period of declining health. She was surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.

Born July 28, 1922, in Habersham County, she was the daughter of the late George and Drucillar Heaton Marcus. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cager P. Ivester; brothers, Junior, Houston, G.W., Charlie, James Willie, Claude and Tommy Marcus; sister, Maebell Marcus; and son-in-law, Johnny Thomas.

Mrs. Ivester retired from Carwood Manufacturing. She was a member of Turnerville Church of God. Mrs. Ivester loved God, her family, flowers, gardening, canning and cooking.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Garnet Yearwood of Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, Larry W. and Mary Lou Ivester of Turnerville; daughter, Judy I. Thomas of Turnerville; grandchildren, Lynn and Brian Echols of Turnerville, Angela Ivester and Damien Rojas of North Port, Fla., Kay and Damon Cantrell of Turnerville, Kristy Ivester of Turnerville, and Howard Yearwood of Fairview; great-grandchildren, Brandon Palmer of Alto, Ethan Echols of Turnerville, Mary Echols of Turnerville, Jesse W. Cantrell of Turnerville, Johnny Yearwood of Jefferson; great-great-grandchildren, Alex and Ryan Yearwood of Jefferson; brother, J.C. Marcus of Clarkesville; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as loving caregivers Susie Adams, Mary Adams, Anita Chaney and Shirley Potts.
